Turkish Maritime Law

Located in the isthmus of the old continent geography of Turkey, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea with the Mediterranean Sea through the northern ports and straits linking the Mediterranean, it has played important roles in world maritime trade throughout history. Located in the corridors of the Silk Road, which has been revived with the "Belt and Road Initiative" of China, opening to the Mediterranean and Europe; convergence with major submarine oil and gas pipelines; sovereignty and maritime jurisdiction in which the riches of the world maritime trade and the lifeblood of the world's maritime trade with the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Straits is increasingly important in a broad sense in the law of the sea. In the years following the establishment of the Republic, substantial changes were made in the legal system and legislation on the law of the sea was affected by these changes in a broad sense. With the 2000s, important steps have been taken regarding the development of Turkish Maritime Law with both the harmonization efforts with the EU legislation and the adoption and enforcement of international treaties on the law of the sea. An increase in the importance of the Republic of Turkey despite the global maritime trade and development in the broadest sense, the legislation law of the sea, these issues are not sufficiently publicized world. The “Turkish Maritime Law” site is a personal initiative and work that acts to promote Turkish Maritime Law more in the world public opinion. In line with this purpose, current developments regarding Turkish Maritime Law will be shared in Turkish and English; Short translations of court decisions and decision reviews on the subject will be included, and new works that will enter the literature will be introduced in line with the possibilities. Considering the relationship between the Law of the Sea and other disciplines and disciplines, it is aimed to include the developments in these fields to the extent necessary. In addition to publications and information on the Law of the Sea, various articles, interviews, video and social media posts will be included in other related fields.
